The Estate covers 5,250 hectares and is a thriving mix of countryside pursuits including the renowned high pheasant and partridge shoot, livestock farming, forestry, commercial and residential properties covering a huge variety of land types from heather clad hills to the fertile flood plains of the River App.
Glenapp has a history of providing some of the highest quality, challenging and sporting pheasant shooting in Scotland with notable and renowned drives throughout the Estate. The pheasant shoot combines perfectly with the partridge shoot which is established on the dramatic coastal cliffs, amid the high hills, deep glens and moorland fringe of the Estate allowing experienced guns a fantastic opportunity for challenging sport throughout the season.

WORKING FARMS MANAGER

Our rapidly growing & multi-award winning diversified farm business is looking to fill an entirely new role created to manage several key enterprises including Dairy Youngstock, Pedigree Angus Beef Stud, Arable operations and various sheep grazing arrangements.
The successful candidate would be reporting to the Estate Director, along with the existing Dairy & Office Managers. He or she would be expect to work closely with and be part of the senior management team, who are ambitious to grow the business, while maintaining long held traditions & values of the Board.
The role is a mix of hands on & office-based work, the latter supported by an inhouse established management, secretarial & accounting team. You will enjoy leading stock handlings, jumping on a tractor, carrying out regular audits and growing the capabilities of team members, while contributing to longer term decision making, compliance, breeding, crop choice decisions & outcomes.
This is designed to facilitate a first or second career move onto a managerial ladder with considerable scope & future opportunities available for the successful applicant.
Glenapp is a 4th Generation, family owned, coastal Estate covering 5200 hecs (12,850 acres) of mixed land ranging from 0 to 426m (1400 feet). The land is all contiguous and ring fenced. Glenapp is situated 14 miles south of Girvan and 14 miles north of Stranraer in South Ayrshire.
The Estate is diversified and farmed in hand. Its Enterprises include a:
- 1000 dairy cow, spring block calving, genomically tested herd with 350 in calf heifers and 350 heifer calves.
- 100 Beef cow herd, with 90 Pedigree AA cows producing bulls for our dairy and sale and a small herd of 10 Belted Galloways.
- Up to 1200 homebred store/fattening cattle.
- A cropping enterprise with grows 810 hec (2000 acres) Grass silage, 60 hec (150 acres) Barley, 25 hec (62 acres) Forage Maize and 25 hec (62 acres) Forage crops.
- 1800 hecs (4,400 acres) commercial and amenity forestry.
- A sporting department with an inhand pheasant and partridge shoot and leased stalking.
- Renewable Energies including solar, wind, biomass and geothermal.
The Estate employs 17 people, including on the farms a team of 6, dedicated to the dairy, 2 tractor/machine operators, a stockperson and a maintenance manager, overseen by the Farms Manager and seasonal staff are employed when required.
The Role
This is a new role. The successful individual will be passionate about making a meaningful contribution to the business and established team at Glenapp. We are looking for an individual who is excited about leading and supporting the established team in a large variety of tasks.
The role will have day to day responsibility for:
The dairy youngstock and homebred beef cattle. The successful candidate will work closely with the existing team to rotationally graze cattle and develop grazing techniques on upland and hill pastures to improve the grazing and cattle performance ensuring that cattle meet growth targets and are weighed regularly.
The Glenapp Beef Herds which calf in the spring. The Aberdeen Angus herd uses elite sires through AI to breed high performance, short gestation cattle. The suitable males are left entire for home use or sale. The small herd of Belted Galloways were established to assist maintaining this historic and local breed, with a clear focus on quality. We have in the past shown cattle at local shows and enjoy supporting these events.
The Arable enterprise focuses on growing top quality grass for grazing, drying and conservation and a variety of forage crops. All lowground grass and arable areas are regularly GPS soil sampled and management is continually improving soil health to optimise output.
Sheep winterers are grazed on hills and lowground pasture.
Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Work closely with the Estate Director and our advisors to maintain and improve livestock and land performance, Health and Safety and grow the capabilities of our team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting farm goals in terms of production, stock, feed, environment, machinery, and people management. They will be able to monitor, analyse, interpret, and report appropriate benchmarks whilst ensuring farm policies and plans are implemented.
